The Green Lung of Milan
Parco Sempione
Built in its current shape between 1888 and 1894, in reality the history of the park began at the time of the Visconti and Sforza who in this space, between the city and the countryside, had their immense hunting lodge and even a menagerie of ferocious animals. Transformed during the Spanish domination into a parade ground for the troops housed in the Castle, the future Sempione Park takes the shape of the English garden at the end of the nineteenth century, to become the most important public garden in Milan. The current name is due to the adjacent Corso Sempione, the monumental road axis built in the Napoleonic era.
