All 3 sculptures were created during the European Symposium of Engraving and Sculpture ‘Engraving and Sculpture meet Homer’ which took place in July and August 2011 at Mesta in Chios, by the engraving workshop at Mesta, founded by artist Maria Gerardi Passali. German sculptor Stefanie Krome drew her inspiration by Rhapsody X which talks of Ulysses’ ruse to deceive Cyclops Polyphemus and created the ‘Cup of Cyclops’. In this marble nonfigurative sculpture, the cup offered to whoever stands in front of the work is reminiscent of the flask of wine that Ulysses offered to Polyphemus in order to put him to sleep.
