The fellow traveler from Chios
The tomb of Psycharis
In his travels on the land of Chios, Psycharis had Konstantinos Kanellakis as a fellow companion. In ‘My Journey’, Psycharis vividly describes the narrations of Kanellakis concerning Homer: “Homer would often come stand against the rock that you see here in front of you. Maybe he wrote the first rhapsody of the Iliad right here… The waves that we hear beating against the shore were the same ones back then. So, our uncle Homer would hear them and write his lines”. Konstantinos Kanellakis was self-taught and he aimed to document and study the language, tradition and folklore of Chios, as well as to preserve Homeric traditions.
