Marble collared jar
Marble collared jar
The collared jar copies in marble similar clay vases and is a very common type of marble vessel in the Early Cycladic I period. Its popular name in Greek, kandila, is due to its similarity to the hanging icon-lamps (kandilia) in Orthodox Christian churches. In fact, in modern times, some of these vessels had been used for this purpose in island churches.
