The buildings’ specifications
‘Bachelors workers neighborhood’
Buildings were built to house the majority of the workers (around 900 people) who most of them were singles, but there were also married people who had left their families in their villages. When the works have been finished and the workers left, the so-called "bachelors'’ buildings were demolished, with the exception of those that had been built for workers who lived with their families and were located in another part of the settlement. The "bachelors" buildings were 15 and had separate rooms per 4 men. Each room had two double iron bunk beds, while each building could lodge 40 people. They had French-style windows with shutters and glasses. The engineers had chosen them as the most suitable solution for the Mediterranean climate. A vestibule with two front doors was constructed at both ends of the building. The workers did not even want to keep the windows closed. They thought they were keeping the air out of their rooms and used to leave the front doors open. Among the basic facilities were electric lighting, wood waste, and charcoal burning stoves. The baths were located in different buildings and had tubs, showers, and toilets. Each worker had his own blankets and sheets, which he washed in the laundry.
