Mrs. Chrysa’s coffee shop
The club
"Grandma Chryssa was a worthy woman. Her family was uprooted from Asia Minor and came to Greece, where she married grandfather Alexis and they had three children. The grandfather started working at the dam and they stayed in the settlement. Even though she had not been 30 years old, the grandmother was a widow with three children. The company hired her as a cleaner and later, at the suggestion of some colleagues and friends of her late husband, the Administration gave her the permission to run a coffee shop, as the settlement did not have one. So, around 1943 she built a rough construction with metal sheets and wood, next to the current club. She was a very strong woman. Every day before dawn, she was cleaning the offices and during the break time, she served her delicious coffee. Then, she was running home to take care of her household and then back to the coffee shop in order to serve her home-made delicacies until late in the evening”.
