In Marathon, the staff working in the construction of the Dam and the scheme of the water supply of the capital had the privilege to already enjoy the services that their project would offer to their fellow citizens back in Athens. There was a water supply system starting out from the tanks here and water that flowed with the force of gravity from the source of Gouriza in Stamata. There was also a sewer system with underground tanks built after the model of the sewers used in the American military camps during World War I in 1914. The shared toilets in the quarry on the north side of the Dam are the only vestiges of the original sewerage system that survives from 1926.
