The building
The Benrubi Store
Until the beginning of the century, the Benroubi family was housed on actual Vasileos Irakleiou Street, in the so-called "Gialadika" area. They then acquired their own building further north, on the main Giali Kapi Street, which was one of the few pre-fire buildings preserved in the new urban plan. A permit was issued in 1925 for the building’s restoration and adaptation to the new alignment plan and the study was undertaken by Jacques Moshe. In its new form, the building occupies the building block between 38, Valaoritou Street, 9 Kapodistriou Street and 3 Paikou Street. It consists of a basement, ground floor and two floors, with a main entrance from Valaoritou Street, and a penthouse on the third floor. The mansion features baroque and neoclassical elements, while the decorative floral motifs are mainly limited to the window crowns. Today the building houses a public service.
