The Parthenon’s Building Costs
The north colonnade
Building the Parthenon cost 6,000 talents, that is, 36,000 drachmas. To understand the scale of the funds used, a simple temple at the time cost 1000 talents, a naval fleet 100 talents, and a sheep 1 drachma. At the time, all public work expenditures were published on marble slabs that were displayed in the city center so as to allow public scrutiny.
