A half-finished temple
Temple of Zeus Basileus
West of Livadeia, on the hill of Profitis Ilias, stands a temple. Antiochus IV Epiphanes did not have time to complete his vision of work to match the temple of Zeus at Olympia in honor of Zeus Basileus, retaining the splendor of the Hellenistic period. According to the inscriptions, the citizens of Livadia honored the god with celebrations, the Basileia, renowned for their processions of canefore virgins, namely, young girls carrying baskets on their head, containing various holy items for the rituals.
