Who was Hellen?
Acropolis of Ancient Melitaia
Near the mythical river Enipeus, at the northern foot of Mt Othrys, one of the most important cities in Phthiotis was founded in the 5th century B.C. Its strategic position controlled and connected Thessaly to the Malian gulf and Thessaly to southern Greece. It was populated until Roman times, while it is said that the tomb of Hellen, the son of Deucalion and Pyrrha, was located in its agora.
