The protected mountains
Antichasia Mountains
The Antichasia mountains are a low mountain range to the north of Trikala, at an altitude of 1416 metres. They connect to the north with the Chasia and the Kamvounia mountains, while they end in the south at the plains of Thessaly. An important water current forms on their slopes, Mourgani, a tributary of Pineios. The Antichasia mountains and the neighboring Meteora have been designated as Important Bird Areas of Greece (IBAG). The Antichasia mountains, Meteora, and Melissotrypa cave are Natura 2000 protected habitats under code GR14400
