In the Porta quarter, opposite Pyli, sebastokrator Doukas Ioannis I Angelos Komninos built in 1283 the Byzantine church that holds within it two glorious full size mosaics of the Virgin Mary and Christ, placed at the main entrance of the sanctuary, in the opposite position of that dictated by Christian Orthodox tradition.
