The monastery of the painter
Monastery of Agia Triada Drakopetras
Built in 1758 on Mt Oxya of Agrafa, the Holy Monastery of Agia Triada carries with it the memories of the small monastery which it succeeded, as though it wanted to offer a larger canvas for painter and priest Theodoros Ourias from Agia in Larissa on which to unleash his creativity. Theodoros studied the iconography program of the Catholic monasteries of Mt Athos, Meteora, and other 17th century churches in Agrafa, but he allowed his personal style to shine through, both in the unique technical elements of his murals, as well as in part of the dome, which depicts pre-schism Popes, introducing a tradition that was observed in Romanian monuments of the 16th century.
