During Ottoman rule, the Monastery of Agia Triada played an important role, while it is said to have even served as refuge to Georgios Karaiskakis, one of the most important fighters of the Greek War for Independence. However, when St Cosmas of Aetolia arrived, the monastery kept its doors shut, for fear that the Saint might influence the citizens against selling the swords they made solely to Greeks. Then, it is said, he cursed them to sink, and that is why the village suffered landslides in the years that followed.
