The strategic point
Kastri. Grevena
The region in which the recently excavated acropolis basks in Kastri, Grevena, was, during antiquity, a crossroads between Macedonia, Epirus, and Thessaly, and for that reason, over the centuries it was claimed at times by Epirus and at others by Macedonia. Sirras, the king of Tymphaia, may have been the grandfather of Philip II of Macedonia, while historical sources mention that three taxis of the phalanxes of Alexander III when he marched to the East were from Tymphaia.
