The replacement
Kyparissia
The railway station of Kyparissia opened in September 1902. It belonged to the line that connected Kyparissia to Pyrgos. Ships delivered the construction materials to a train waiting on a purpose-built dock. There was no official opening ceremony because the cost was prohibitive. Only a lunch for local dignitaries and company employees marked the occasion. The station closed to most traffic in 2010, but the Kyparissia Railway Museum Showroom remains open. It hosts a German-built Krauss steam locomotive. The locomotive belongs to the Zs 531-555 series. The railway company bought it with funds provided by the Greek state in 1926 to replace another locomotive lost in Asia Minor after the Greek defeat in 1922.
