The new station.
Thessaloniki
The construction of the New Thessaloniki Railway Station began in October 1937, but work was halted due to World War II. After many delays and modifications, the station was inaugurated in February 1962. It is the largest railway terminal in the country (55,000 sq. m.). It is also among the most celebrated modern railway architecture projects in Greece. The urban square outside the entrance and the main concourse level that leads to the docks are impressive. The terminal serves passengers to Athens and European destinations. The New Thessaloniki Railway Station is the biggest station in Greece and one of the biggest in the Balkans.
