The Veria railway station was among the fifteen stations of the branch line from Thessaloniki to Bitola. At the time Veria was known as Karaferye. The idea for the 219-kilometres line belongs to a group of capitalists operating on behalf of Deutsche Bank, while the construction was assigned to the French engineering company “Société du Chemin de Fer ottoman Salonique-Monastir.” The ambitious project was completed in three years. The two-storey station building is three kilometres from downtown Veria and survives in its original form. The canopy and the platforms were added in the 1950s. The adjoining warehouse was later converted into a restaurant. The area near the station was soon packed with factories that wished to enjoy easy access to the railway network.
