The lignite deposits of Ptolemaida
Kozani
The station of Kozani is a testament to the railway’s contribution to the economic and industrial development of Greece. It belongs to the Kozani–Amyntaio railway line that was designed to connect the massive lignite deposits of Ptolemaida to the national market and to transfer in low cost the regional ore deposits and the forest products not only of Kozani but also of the neighboring cities. The railway connection facilitated the process and delivery of military supplies since Kozani was one of the seats of Greek army forces.
