From Amsterdam with Love
De Blauwbrug
Amsterdam is also known as the city of bridges. Did you know that the city boasts more than 1,200 bridges? They bear their number and they cross the canals, the main roads, and the waterways. Constructed for the International and the Colonial Exhibition that was held in Amsterdam in 1883, De Blauwbrug (meaning the Blue bridge) owes its name to the blue railings that bridges in Amsterdam used to have. It replaced a wooden bridge that connected the Amstelstraat with Waterlooplein. Designed by the architects Bastiaan de Greef and Willem Springer, who draw inspiration from the Parisian Pont Alexandre III, the bridge is richly decorated with attractive lanterns and crowns! Tip: The bridge is the perfect spot to take a picture. If you feel like it , take a picture and share it with us on our Instagram account @cliomusetours.
