Home sweet home
Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace, originally called Buckingham House, used to be the property of the Duke of Buckingham. It was acquired by the Royal Family 1761, during the reign of George III, who wanted a private residence for his wife, Queen Charlotte. It was later enlarged and arranged for Queen Victoria to move in after her accession to the throne in 1837. The palace is home to the ruling Monarch and their immediate family; other members of the Royal Family live in neighbouring palaces and houses. It has 775 rooms, 52 being royal and guest bedrooms and 188 being staff bedrooms. The palace even has its own post office, cinema, and a swimming pool. Once a year, in summer, certain rooms are open to the public. This is your only chance to look inside, unless of course you receive an official invitation by the Crown!
