A royal household
The Mall
Looking across at St James's Park are many important buildings. Notice a cream-coloured building with a UK flag; this is Clarence House. Built between 1825-27 by John Nash for the Duke of Clarence, later William IV, it has been the residence of various royals. Elizabeth II lived here after her marriage, and later her only sister Princess Margaret, lived here as well as her mother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, until their deaths in 2002. It is currently the official London residence of Charles, Prince of Wales, and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall. Even though it is open to the public on specific dates, Clarence House is the last grand house still serving as a royal home. It is well worth a visit, especially for the rich art and tapestry collection on display, which belonged to the Queen Mother.
