Building Complex Beta
The Building Complex Beta is famous for the quality of the frescoes that once adorned the upper floor. The Boxing Children, the Antelopes, and the Monkeys are considered masterpieces of creative artistic skill. The ground-floor rooms are semi-basements because at some point the people of Akrotiri decided to raise the level of the street. One of these rooms served as a cellar for foodstuffs that were kept in two rows of storage jars incorporated inbuilt benches. A pile of tripod cooking pots and cups were found in the adjacent room. The upper storey has a floor paved with stones. There was also a wooden column that supported the ceiling. Many vases were found packed around the column, probably placed there for safety after the earthquake.
