In memoriam
Holocaust-Mahnmal
Also known as the Holocaust Memorial, this monument spans an area of almost 20,000 square metres and consists of approximately 2,800 concrete stele organised in rows that form a closely woven grid. Ideas regarding its creation were already being proposed during the 1980s, though it was only after the turn of the new millennium that designs were approved. Architect Peter Eisenman and engineer Buro Happold started working on its realisation among concerns, praises and critiques coming from all sides in Germany’s political and cultural sphere. The Holocaust Memorial was finally inaugurated in 2005.
