Empires falling and rising
Clock Tower
The Clock Tower of Antalya (Saat Kulesi) is one the surviving structures that recalls the legacy of the city's Byzantine past. Constructed in the 9th century as part of the city's fortifications, it was transformed into a clock tower at the beginning of the 20th century. It is said that it is one of the 80 defensive towers that surrounded Antalya. In 1901, the year of its conversion, the German Emperor Wilhelm II donated the tower's clock to Sultan Abdülhamid II to commemorate his 25 years' reign of the Ottoman Empire.
