The double baths
Pazar Hamam
Let’s learn a turkish word! Pazar means double and in consequence Pazar Hamam means the double baths since it was designed to have two separate areas, one for women and one for men. Pazar Hamam is the largest one in Antalya, and its construction dates to around the end of the 16th century or the first decades of the 17th. The Ottoman traveler, historian and writer, Evliya Çelebi, who visited Antalya between 1671 and 1672, makes reference to the Pazar Haman, though its first official mention is in a document dating to 1811-12. The Pazar Hamam, however, is actually no longer a hamam; the distinctive building has been transformed into a souvenir shop.
