The Floating Icons of the City
Star Ferry Pier
Serving the city for over 120 years, the Star Ferry’s green and yellow boats have been carrying passengers back and forth across Victoria Harbor. Founded in 1888 by Dorabjee Naorojee Mithaiwala, an Indian Parsee businessman, the Star Ferry was originally called the Kowloon Ferry Company. In fact, Mithaiwala would go on later to develop other businesses in Hong Kong, but the Star Ferry is his most enduring legacy. One of the most charming symbols of Hong Kong’s past, this ferry now operates two cross-harbour routes and harbour cruises. Today it has evolved into an important part of Hong Kong’s urban culture, for locals and visitors alike, as it offers spectacular views of the harbour that passengers can enjoy with the refreshing breeze of the sea.
