The Arasta Bazaar
The traditional Islamic market was not only a place to sell or exchange goods but a place of social gathering, where people used to spend a big part of their day. The word has its origins in the Persian language and the first bazaar was created on a strategic point of the Middle East, where different trade routes would meet. Gradually, bazaars would become the financial core of a city, providing, to foreigners and locals alike, a space for social interaction, fun and even a place of prayer. Thus, you shall notice that most of the time, bazaars are situated next to mosques.
