Introduction
The Museum of Cycladic Art has created a thematic route accessible to people with visual impairment that gives them the opportunity to touch exact copies of selected exhibits. The copies are made of either marble or resin and, in many cases, bear the Museum’s engraved seal that certifies their authenticity. The material mentioned in the title of each object always refers to the original exhibit.
This route is complemented by appropriately formatted descriptive texts, available in Braille, large print, audio format and via the Clio Muse application. The programme was implemented with the participation of a focus group of visually impaired people in collaboration with the social enterprise "Me Alla Matia", meaning “Through other eyes” in Greek.
The copies of the exhibits and the accompanying texts (in printed and audio form) have been placed inside compartments in a specially crafted mobile display case. The display case accompanies visually disabled people to 13 different stations in the exhibition, which are listed on the gallery floor plan. On each object, there is a number that corresponds to the printed or audio texts. During the visit, the team will be accompanied by trained museum personnel.
