Cycladic Civilisation
Cycladic Civilisation
Cycladic Civilisation refers to the civilisation that developed in the Cycladic islands of the Aegean Sea during the Bronze Age, specifically from 3200 to 2000 BC, and became known mainly through the marble statuettes, which were figurines found in abundance on these islands. The Cycladic islanders were seafaring people, crossing the Aegean with their ships to exchange products and ideas. Agriculture, livestock farming, fishing and hunting were the daily activities of the inhabitants who lived permanently in small settlements, initially near the shores and later the hillsides. In their daily lives, they used ceramic pots and utensils, while also making tools and weapons from copper and other objects made of silver and lead. The marble present on almost all the islands and other materials, such as obsidian in Milos and emery in Naxos, were also very important for the life and art of the Cycladic people. All the information about the daily life of the ancient people of the Cyclades, their burial customs and their religion is based exclusively on the objects that archaeologists have discovered and continue to discover in excavations, since there are no written texts from that time.
