Marble zoomorphic pyxis
Marble zoomorphic pyxis
Another typical marble vessel is this rare pyxis in the form of a sitting pig. It is 4 cm tall, 12.7 cm long and 7.9 cm wide. The front legs are short, while the hind legs are rendered in relief. At the back, the embossed tail stands out. It has a small head, with carved eyes, snout and ears and an opening in the upper part of the body, probably to keep jewellery or other small items.
