Corals belong to the stony corals group, (Class Anthozoa). They are the flowers of the sea and their skeleton is sometimes soft, like an anemone, and sometimes hard. Stony corals or hard corals grow to a depth of less than 10 m. and lighting, water quality, temperature and salinity play an important role in their development. Such coral colonies are found near Ecuador.
