Sand secrets!
Sandy and rocky shores
The sandy and rocky shores are the functional links between sea and land. The sandy beach consists mainly of rock dust extracted by the sea or carried by rivers. It contains shell fragments or coral dust (off-white sand). Depending on the color of the sand, we can understand the type of rock to which its grains belong. For example, light-colored sand is made up of quartz grains, while gray black is made of volcanic ash. We cannot ignore the frequent occurrence of land animals in this environment (rats, cormorants, gulls) and the seabirds in general, which depend on the coast. The rocky shores offer shelter from the heat and drought when the sea recedes. Both of these areas are a refuge for many species that can withstand the sudden changes of salinity and temperature such as clams, small shrimps, crabs etc.
