The Holy Monastery was founded by St Seraphim in the late 16th century and has been characterised as a listed monument by the Ministry of Culture. The monastery has a Byzantine church with four columns and a dome, while the icon of the saint by an unknown hagiographer, was crafted in 1646 and is known as the ‘Palladium of the monastery’. It contributed significantly to the Greek War of Independence of 1821 and is officially celebrated on the 6th of May (the annunciation of St Seraphim).
