James Robertson was an English engraver, director of the Imperial Ottoman Mint and professor of the Greek photographer Dimitrios Konstantinos. He became interested in photography in 1853, a passion he pursued until 1865. Robertson went on a photographic expedition to Athens and published an album of photographs of classical monuments. In 1855 he showed his photos at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. Through his work, Robertson supported the revival of ancient Greek ideals that defined the 19th century after the Greek War of Independence.
