Dimitrios Konstantinou was a student of James Robertson and became one of the most recognisable photographers of 19th-century Athens. He was active from 1855 until 1875. His photographs were included in an exhibition at the Athens Polytechnic. He collaborated with the Archaeological Society of Athens to photograph the city’s ancient monuments. A well-travelled and award-winning photographer, Konstantinou maintained a studio in Aiolou Street, Athens's most desirable commercial street. In 1862, he participated at the International Exhibition in London, and in 1867 he was awarded the bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris for twenty-four of his photographs.
