A journey through time
A journey through time
Our exploration of the Athens Olympic Museum begins with a journey through time. We enter a dark, circular space, with evocative music, which transports us to the world and the atmosphere of the Olympic Games. The upper part of this room is traversed by an installation in the shape of a kotinos, which is the olive wreath, the honorary prize for champions at the Olympic Games of antiquity.
Projected on the five leaves of the kotinos are alternating snapshots from the Olympic Games around the world. The projections start out chronologically from today, with powerful colorful images from the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games, athletes preparing just before they start, competing and finishing, as well as national flags from the Parade of Nations. The projections continue through black and white images from the first modern Olympic Games, Olympic flame lighting ceremonies, torch relays and athletic depictions from ancient pottery vessels. The video projections conclude simultaneously on all the leaves with images of olive branches under the sunlight.
