Here we can explore by touch the costume of the Red Centaur used at the Opening Ceremony of the “Athens 2004” Olympic Games. This is a reproduction of a life-sized horse body, the upper part of which is complemented by the person impersonating the mythological figure of the Centaur. The body of the horse is dark red in color while its interior is hollow, containing only its motion mechanism. At the knee, the mechanism and the boots of the person wearing the costume can be found. The Centaur has a long, dense, red-colored tail, woven from synthetic wool. The horse’s legs are slightly bent, one in front of the other, creating the impression of motion. The Centaurs are anthropomorphic creatures from Greek mythology with a binary nature: half human and half horse. According to myth, the Centaurs are creatures with the lower body and four legs of a horse, and the upper body and two arms of a human. They lived in the mountains and forests in the area of Thessaly. The best-known Centaurs are Nessus, Pholus and Chiron.
