Here you can explore by touch a copy of a paralympic medal, donated to the Athens Olympic Museum by the Hellenic Paralympic Committee. In order to explore the tactile depiction, gently pull the tablet upwards until it is stable. The medal is made of bronze, it is round and hangs from an orange band. On its front side it reads “Athens 2004 Paralympic Games” and in English Braille script “Athens 2004”. On its sides the name of the Paralympic winner, Ioannis Kostakis, is inscribed along with the date of receiving the medal, 10.09.04, and the sport, 100 meter freestyle.
We can discover details of the scene of the back side of the medal in the tactile representation located to the right of it. The sacred rock of the Acropolis, with the Temple of the Parthenon at the top, are rendered abstractly, as are the schematized trees and small houses at the foot of the hill. After you finish the tactile exploration, please bring the tablet back to its original vertical position.
