The Tree of Life
Etz Hayyim Synagogue
The name of the Synagogue translates to "Tree of life". In the Jewish and Christian traditions, the tree of life is found in the middle of the Garden of Eden and, as the name suggests, it is a giver of eternal life. It is not entirely clear whether the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil are two distinct arboreal species or one and the same. Much like its name, the fifteenth-century building has risen from its ashes and is now a consecrated and flourishing non-denominational space for prayer and study, as well as a symbol of religious unity and multi-faith practice.
