Ares, god of war
Ares and the Areopagus Hill
Ares (or Mars, for the Romans) was the god of war. Unlike Athena, who represented the strategic way of battle, he was the god of irrational war. He was always thirsty for blood and combat and he undoubtedly was the fiercest god of the Greek pantheon. He was the son of Zeus and Hera but his cult originated from Thrace. Extremely active sexually, he had an abundance of descendants with multiple partners. He was the father of the warlike tribe of the Amazons and he even managed to seduce Aphrodite, the wife of Hephaestus.
