The Voice of Methoni
Andrea Fogli
Artist Andrea Fogli (b.1959) created “The Voice of Methoni” for the 2nd Art Symposium. Influenced by the Symbolism movement and design, Fogli creates multifaceted images where the interior and the exterior, the dream and the reality, the proximity and the distance are in a continuous flow. The work consists of a water pond, and some portable icon stands (iconostasis) used in Eastern Christianity which create a rather uncanny and mysterious environment. This feeling of transformation is evident in this piece and aims at externalizing the audience's inner world. The viewer is called to experience the transformation that occurs mainly in their imagination rather than in reality with all their senses, leaving them with a sense of melancholy, as the artist himself sought.
