Dirty words
Demetris Dokatzis
“Dirty Words” (1993) is the contribution of artist Demetris Dokatzis (1958-2017) in the 3rd Art Symposium. Through his work, Dokatzis seeks out the boundaries of sculpture, creating, as in this one, sculptural structures which form sites of intense drama. He comments on the political, social and economic reality and tries to detect the processes of forming relationships and their structures. Similarly, here, using strict artistic language and cold expressive means, with a mood of sarcasm and irony, he creates a piece of impressive frankness with alarming messages. An empty black cage, synonymous with oppression, and four loudspeakers that create a chill of deep concern to the viewers. A piece with clear references to the violation of individual independence and freedom of speech.
