Spiral
Ingrid Fragantoni
In her work Ingrid Fragantoni (b.1945) combines the conventional reality with the rich inner consciousness, but without blending the divine with the sacrilegious. “Spiral” (1993), presented at the 3rd Art Symposium (1993), includes powerful spiritual characteristics which are joined by an unprecedented purity, as embodied through the strict simplicity of the Cycladic white. The spiral is a sacred symbol to many different cultures. It depicts the way from birth to death and vice versa and symbolizes time, evolution and life itself. Entering the spiral structure that emerges energy, similar to that of the pyramids, is important for experiencing the piece, which even mimics the shape of our galaxy. Thus, Fragantoni created a profoundly spiritual work that links the celestial with the terrestrial and the human existence.
