Stylite - Raised perspective
Nikos Charalampidis
The artistic expression of artist Nikos Charalampidis (b.1967) is strongly political and focuses on matters regarding contemporary political and social reality, giving them complex overtones, which are open to multiple interpretations. The artist’s personal expressive idiom is particularly rich, due to the variety and imaginative use of techniques and artistic means. “Stylite – Raised perspective” (1996), from the exhibition “Riches of Cyprus” (1996), is characteristic of Charalampidis’ artistic practice. The title, as well as the individual components of the piece, makes several references to the political situation in the artist’s country, Cyprus and the role of the church in it. The elements of the installation are memory pieces which cause the viewers’ vigilance and require their reaction for the completion of the piece.
