The artistic expression of Nikos Sotiriadis (1959-2015) has an existential character and focuses on matters regarding the future of our planet which is being destroyed by human indifference. “Plants” (1993), from the 3rd Art Symposium (1993), embodies the artist’s vexation over the danger of destroying our culture and the disappearance of the human species due to the destruction of the environment. A socio-political analysis of the piece creates associations regarding the political situation which reduces the citizens to mindless creatures. Sotiriadis created this piece as a threatening warning to humanity. At the same time, his work urges us to embrace ecological thinking and support the environment.
