Treasure hunt
Vouleftikon-The First Parliament
The fall of Nafplion to the Ottomans in 1715 was bloody and messy. According to a legend, two Venetian brothers attempted to retrieve a treasure left behind by their father fifteen years later. An influential Ottoman killed the brothers and used their map to find the treasure. To atone for his sin, he decided to use the money to build a mosque. He chose a centrally-located site and erected a building that stood out with its size and careful construction. The architects used finely carved isodomic stones and added an impressive dome. A second smaller dome adorned a portico on the west side. The mosque is a fine example of late Ottoman religious architecture and was popularly known as the Agha Mosque (agha being an honorific title for a civilian or military officer).
