The bastion of Saint Andrew
If you arrived at the bastion of Leonidas from the rough path, keep the castle’s outer wall to your right and walk towards the bastion of Saint Andrew. If you came to Leonidas from the fork, retrace your steps back to the division and continue towards Andrew. The entrance to the bastion of Saint Andrew is marked with the lion of Saint Mark. Pass through. You will come across an open courtyard. Since this is an old castle, you have many options. The steps to your right will lead you to a terrace with spectacular views of Nafplion and the sea. Hard left (there is a sign To Saint Andrew’s Bastion) is the entrance to the core of the bastion. The church we mention in the stories that follow is next to the cypress trees, while the so-called prison of Kolokotronis is on a higher level behind and to the church's right (follow the staircase to the right of the church). The prison may not be open due to health measures aimed at limiting coronavirus transmission. Feel free to explore the bastion and enjoy the breath-taking views from various points. Once you have had your fill, return to the first courtyard and turn left towards “Exit by stairs”. But before you do, a point of caution.
