The bastion of Themistocles
Re-entering the outer courtyard of Saint Andrew bastion, you will see another staircase in front of you from the WC sign and a door to your upper right with a sign saying “To the upper bastions”. Go through the door and walk until you meet another fork in the road. You can choose to return to the parking area or continue with the tour by taking the path to the right, leading to the bastion of Themistocles. This one is not as architecturally pronounced as the bastion of Saint Andrew, so keep an eye for a group of antennae. They mark the spot! From the antennae terrace, you will enjoy good views of the other bastions and understand how crucial this bastion was to the castle's defence since it is higher than any other bastion. Just before the antennae, there is an attractive long room to the left worth exploring. When you pass the antennae, you may think the road leads to a dead-end, but there is a door that seems to lead straight into the sea. Go through to continue with the tour.
